Paul
was born on March 22, 1977 and grew up in the town of Mayville,
Michigan.
During his K-12 years he attended Juniata Christian
School. He studied piano from grades 4-12 and was also
involved in the school choir (bass) and concert band (percussion.)
Outside of school he was a percussionist in the Mayville
Community Band and sang bass for two vocal groups, His
Witness and New Perspective. He was also very involved
with all of the musical programs and groups at the Pleasant
View Free Methodist Church.
Paul
graduated from high school in 1995 and moved to Anderson, Indiana
where he attended Anderson
University. While earning a BA degree in Music Business he
was also a baritone in the Anderson Symphonic Choir and the
Anderson University Chorale which toured Finland, Sweden
and Russia as well as many memorable places throughout the US. He
was also the part of a vocal ensemble, One Hope, which was
a ministry of the East Side Church of God
in
Anderson.
After
graduation from AU in 1999, Paul worked at Gaither
Family Resources in Alexandria, Indiana. Owned by Bill
and Gloria Gaither, GFR is a
special store that includes all of the Gaither homecoming videos
and music as well as many other books and gifts specific to the
different "life centers" found in the store.
There is also a cafe' and coffee shop called The
Latte' where people who are touring the facility, as
well as general public, can eat, visit and enjoy a great cup of
coffee!
In
recent months, Paul has entered into full time music ministry. His singing engagements range from churches
throughout the states to nursing facilities, luncheons and special
programs sponsored by various organizations. "In
addition to my church concerts, I have a great time singing at
venues where I can sing more diverse music. I do a new
set of songs each month at the nursing facilities. The music
is always based on the holiday for that month. From Irish
music in March, beach songs in July and Christmas songs in
December, I will mix up the repertoire with big band, country, pop
classics and gospel. I love the variety and it has really
exposed me to a lot of music that I would otherwise not have the
opportunity to sing!"
Since
1998 Paul has recorded five projects. His first project, My
Lamp, included the first 10 songs he ever wrote. “I would
like to think that I have developed as a song writer, but when I
wrote my first song…and then my first ten I was so excited I
decided to record my first CD whether the songs were any good or
not!”
Although he had very limited funds and was just beginning
as a self-producer, Paul still feels that My Lamp was a
strong stepping stone in the learning process of the work he is
still pursuing today.
By
His Hands was Paul’s second project released in 2000. BHH is
a collection of songs that deal not only with God's physical
creation but also the personal life that He creates within our
hearts and souls. Besides self-penned songs Paul also included Cat
Steven's Peace Train, Randy Vador and Jay Rouse's Created
In His Image and His Eye Is On the Sparrow.
As
a way of getting deeper and more personal with songwriting Paul
created a project called The Other Side which released in
2002. “The Other Side continues to be a very personal
project for me as it stems out of some personal brokenness in my
own life. I created the project for anyone with struggles,
addictions and temptations in their lives that leads them away
from all of the things that God would rather have for them. I
describe The Other Side as a musical allegory that takes
the listener from a place of brokeness to possible restoration in
God.”
In
2004 Paul decided to go back and record some old and new
inspirational songs that he had spoken personally to him as he had
sung them through the years. The result was Inspirations, a
compilation of songs from such artists as the Gaither Trio,
Avalon, Squire Parsons, Ray Boltz, Crystal Lewis, and the Martins.
He also included one original song called Make Me New
Again which is another song about personal desire for
restoration.
For
his latest musical endeavor, Paul wanted to create a project with
more southern gospel and country flavors of music. So he enlisted
the help of Woody Wright, who
has enjoyed many wonderful opportunities in the music industry as
a producer, artist, songwriter and favorite on many Gaither
Homecoming videos, “Woody is a great guy and he helped give my
project the sound that I was looking for plus 110%!”
Settling of the House released in September 2006. "My first
song written with the new project in mind became the title track
and lead to the CD's concept: being at peace and at home with
where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going."
When
not traveling Paul attends Park Place
Church of God in Anderson, Indiana
where he is actively involved in the youth, music and missions
programs.
